Imran Khan’s State of Medina

THE QURAN HAS NO SUPPORT FOR A STATE

There is nothing in the Quran to support a modern state such as Pakistan, or India or United States of America (federal government of USA).

Neither was there a ‘State of Medina.’ When Prophet Muhammad migrated to Medina he signed an agreement (Mīthāq al-Madīnah) with various tribes of the city. The agreement considered all signatories (Jews and Muslims) as one community (umma) of believers. Each tribe remained in charge of their own affairs. Disputes were referred to Prophet Muhammad for resolution. The various tribes had their own expenses and were responsible as such for their expenses. All parties to the agreement were to assist each other in war and share the expense.

This document was an agreement, it was not a constitution of a state.

THE QURAN AND MEDINA AGREEMENT ARE THE ONLY AUTHENTIC DOCUMENTS

Dr Fred Donner, University of Chicago, points out in his research that only two documents are authentic from that period. The call in the Quran is for ‘O you who believe’. The Muslims, the Jews, the Christians and the Zoroastrians all believe in God and are part of ‘O you who believe’. Dr. Donner in his research points out that the Roman and the Persian empires, the largest empires of that period collapsed without any evidence of destruction or war, when cities and communities welcomed ‘those who believed’ and the freedom that came with them.

TEACHINGS OF THE QURAN

The Quran is God’s words. Prophet Muhammad followed the teachings of the Quran. The Quran advocates justice, humanity, freedom of religion, adhering to rule of law and agreements and certainly seeking knowledge.

The Quran laid the foundation which led the Muslims to prosper as a great civilization. As long as the Muslims followed the Quran alone, they prospered.

The current state of Muslims worldwide and the Muslim countries is the result of them having discarded the Quran and God’s laws in the Quran.

LAST SERMON OF PROPHET MUHAMMAD.

As stated before, the only two authentic documents of that period are the Quran and the Medina agreement. Prophet Muhammad’s last sermon is known for the following rather than a ‘charter of human rights’. The Quran contains the charter of human rights.

1) I leave with you Quran and Sunnah
Muwatta, 46/3

2) I leave with you Quran and Ahl al-bayt
Muslim 44/4, Nu2408; ibn hanbal 4/366; darimi 23/1, nu 3319.

3) I leave with you the Quran alone you shall uphold it.
Muslim 15/19, nu 1218; ibn Majah 25/84, Abu dawud 11/56.

One might notice the above versions of the last sermon divides the Sunnis and Shias, who have no disagreements about the Quran!

THE ‘STATE’ IS THE MODERN DAY IDOL

The Quran condemns idolatry and informs us that it is the only unforgivable sin. Besides the obvious idolatry of humans, the ‘state’ has become a modern idol. Thus, instead of turning to God, most turn to the ‘State’ for help today.

Supporting a point of view by God’s words in the Quran

CAN YOU SUPPORT YOUR POINT OF VIEW BY GOD’S WORDS IN THE QURAN?

Unfortunately, only some submitters adhere to the above, even though the Quran and God’s messenger are clear and explicit about the above.

[6:114] Shall I seek other than GOD as a source of law, when He has revealed to you this book fully detailed? Those who received the scripture recognize that it has been revealed from your Lord, truthfully. You shall not harbor any doubt.
[6:115] The word of your Lord is complete, in truth and justice. Nothing shall abrogate His words. He is the Hearer, the Omniscient.
[18:27] … Nothing shall abrogate His words, and you shall not find any other source beside it.

“We are people who follow the Quran, the whole Quran and nothing but the Quran. Therefore, anybody and this means anybody who brings any information must conform to the Quran, the whole Quran and nothing but the Quran.  And if anyone, I will underline anyone, who comes up with information that is not confirmed by the Quran, we tell him forget it, we don’t accept it. The criterion is preaching, confirming existing scripture, the Quran and nothing else.” – Rashad Khalifa, Khutba announcing his messengership, April 1988.

NEWCOMERS TO SUBMISSION URGED TO VERIFY FROM QURAN

Most of us, when we were first given the message, verified directly from the Quran. Thus, for the correct Shahadah, we would look at the words of 3:18, 47:19 and others similar verses of the Quran. We verified certain aspects the great mathematical miracle of the Quran like number of Suras or the number of letters in the Basmallah or the total number of verses in the Quran. We looked closely at the words of 3:81 to be validate that a messenger will come after all the prophets or 33:40 to ascertain that Muhammad was not the last messenger. Newcomers are encouraged and expected to do their homework of verifying from the Quran.

“THERE IS NO GOD EXCEPT ME; YOU SHALL WORSHIP ME ALONE” [21:25]

Like all previous messengers, the message of the messenger after the prophets was to worship God alone (39:45). The messenger made it clear that we worship God by upholding only God’s words in the Quran (17:46, 25:30). God blessed us by providing proof that every word of the Quran is a Proven Word of God. The messenger brought forth other information embedded within the Quran by God’s leave like the age of 40, the feud in the High Society, etc. In the February 1990 Newsletter, Dr. Khalifa states, “As stated in 3:81 and 46:9, God’s Messenger of the Covenant does not bring anything new; everything I receive and pass on to you is already in the Quran.”

The messenger summarized the embedded information in his English translation of the Quran. Thus, an Introduction gives a Quranic basis to the Religion of Submission and answers the question, “why are we here?” Appendices in the translation give details of the mathematical miracle of the Quran, proof of messengership and other issues of relevance. As an example, in Appendix 9, the messenger explains God’s divine preservation of religious duties from the time of Abraham to now with the Quran correcting all corruptions in religious duties and associated rituals. Neither Muhammad nor Rashad Khalifa were ‘given’ the steps for ‘how to perform salat’.

THE QURAN AND THE MIRACLE DID NOT COME TO US DIRECTLY FROM GOD

Dr. Khalifa states in his Book, Quran, Hadith & Islam:

“Only a little thinking leads us to realize that Quran came to us through Muhammad’s mouth, and DID NOT COME TO US FROM GOD DIRECTLY. Hence the commandment that we shall obey the messenger…for he utters the words of God.

“When we seek “religious” instructions from Muhammad, or any other source beside God, we support Satan in his claim that God needs a partner. Therefore, those who worship God ALONE follow the instructions and teachings of GOD ALONE. As shown throughout this book, God’s teachings are complete, perfect, and fully detailed in Quran.”

Similarly, the delivery of the miracle and embedded information did not come to us directly from God.

RESISTANCE TO SUPPORTING YOUR POINT OF VIEW EXCLUSIVELY BY GOD’S WORDS IN THE QURAN

What is the point when a submitter, who in the process of accepting the message and verifying directly from the Quran (17:36), like the examples given above, transform from a submitter into a potential submitter who seeks “religious” instructions from Rashad and supports Satan in his claim that God needs a partner?

The answer is very simple. It is the point when one gets away from worshipping of God alone (inability to uphold God’s complete words in the Quran), and therefore that person is stripped of common sense. The following are some examples of stripped common sense of those who cannot give a point of view based exclusively on Quran.

–           They cannot define the word Quran. To them, it is something other that the Arabic Quran given to Prophet Muhammad.
–           They cannot accept that God’s words are complete in the Quran per 6:115.
–           They cannot accept that those complete words are the only source of law per 6:114.
–           They cannot accept that God’s words which make up the book (Quran) provide explanations for everything per 16:89
–           They cannot accept that God’s words in the scripture (Quran) contains the message per 21:10.

–           They cannot accept that God’s words in the Quran are called Hadith (a lowly word according to them) and that we cannot accept ANY other Hadith per 77:50, 7:185 and 45:6. Even though God calls His Glorious words in the Quran, Hadith, they are unwilling to call Rashad Khalifa’s words as Hadith.

–           They consider the messenger’s words in footnotes, subheadings, appendices, etc. as same as or ‘at par’ with God’s words in the 6346 verses of the Quran.

–           They consider the messenger, Rashad Khalifa as infallible and uphold his words as a source of law thus establishing a partner with God (under the guise of ‘authorized explanations’).

**

The human messenger imparted the message of worshiping God alone in his human words. The messenger’s words comprise of footnotes, appendices, subheadings, audios, videos, books and newsletters.

We can certainly impart the message by giving a potential believer, Dr. Khalifa’s Translation of the Quran, as it contains embedded information including the miracle of the Quran. We can provide the potential believer access to the audios, videos, books, etc.

However, if you worship God alone, can you support your point of view directly by God’s complete words in the Quran? Or do you need a partner to associate (shirk) with God’s words?

The messenger said, “My Lord, my people have deserted this Quran.” [25:30]

**

None of the above, in any way, means that any of Dr. Khalifa’s work should be cast aside nor does it mean that a thorough study of his should not be done nor does it mean that anyone should be discouraged from study of his works/videos, etc.

It simply means, that when a point of view is advocated, can support from the words of the Quran be provided. The source remains the Quran (Statute Book).  For Statute Law explanations and teachings do not become a source of law.

Rashad Khalifa on Quran alone

FROM DR. RASHAD KHALIFA’S TRANSLATION

Some Muslims compromise: “If a Hadith agrees with the Quran we will accept it, and if it contradicts the Quran, we will reject it!” Such premise proves that these people do not believe God’s assertions that the Quran is “complete, perfect and fully detailed.” The moment they seek guidance from anything besides the Quran, no matter how “right” it seems, they fall into Satan’s trap (see 63:1). For they have rejected God’s word and set up another god besides God (18:57). Appendix 19

The Quran proclaims that the Quran is complete, perfect, and fully detailed (6:1938114, 115; 50:45), and that religious regulations not specifically instituted in the Quran constitute a religion other than Islam, i.e., Submisssion (42:2117:46). The true believers uphold the Quran, the whole Quran, and nothing but the Quran. This principle is confirmed by the Quran’s mathematical code. Verse 46 of Sura 17 proclaims that we shall uphold the Quran ALONE. The word “ALONE” occurs in the Quran 6 times: 7:7017:4639:4540: 12 & 84, and 60:4. All these occurrences refer to God, except 17:46. When we add the numbers of suras and verses which refer to “GOD ALONE,” we get 361, 19×19. This proves that 17:46 refers to “the Quran ALONE.”
Appendix 18

[6:114] Shall I seek other than GOD as a source of law, when He has revealed to you this book fully detailed? Those who received the scripture recognize that it has been revealed from your Lord, truthfully. You shall not harbor any doubt.
[6:115] The word of your Lord is complete, in truth and justice. Nothing shall abrogate His words. He is the Hearer, the Omniscient.
*6:113-115 Upholding any source beside the Quran reflects disbelief in the Quran (Appendix 18)

FROM VIDEOS & AUDIOS

I will raise up for them a prophet like you from among their kinsmen, and will put My words into his mouth; he shall tell them all that I command him. If any man will not listen to My words which he speaks in My name, I Myself will make him answer for it. (Deuteronomy 18:18-19)

Even here is Deuteronomy, we see the accuracy of the language. We are not following Muhammad, we are not following Rashad Khalifa, we are not following any human being. And don’t let anybody tell you that. I don’t follow Rashad Khalifa. And you don’t follow Rashad Khalifa. We follow the words of God. We follow God. When people make those statements, they make out of idolatry. They idolize Ali and Muhammad and Hussain and Jesus and Mary and so on. They idolize human beings. We follow the words of God and if Rashad Khalifa says anything on his own, we don’t listen to him. You can listen and use your own discretion. But we cannot follow what Rashad says, we follow what God says, you and I. So, you can see here that God is saying, “If any man will not listen to My word, the words of God, which he speaks in My name, the name of God, I Myself will make him answer for it”. So, the idea of a messenger is not the messenger at all, if the messenger we know never existed, God will find other people to deliver the message. It is the message that is important, the word of God that we follow. You can see the accuracy even in the translation of the older scripture.

The next verse is John 14:16-17, Jesus says:

I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Paraclete – to be with you always: THE SPIRIT OF TRUTH.

Quran is the last message from God. Remember it is the message, not the messenger. The message came and will be with us till the end of the world, this, the Quran. And the Prophet Muhammad was the one who received and delivered it.
–Rashad Khalifa—Introducing the Blue Translation in Quran Study, Tucson, 1989

“We follow God. We follow the word of God alone. The principle is very easy – if it is not in the Quran, we have no consideration for it.
…your criteria is the Quran. If it is not in the Quran don’t believe it, no matter who is talking to you. It is a very simple principle. This is what we follow.
But you must be aware of this principle. It is our principle – if it is not in the Quran, I don’t believe it. It may or may not be correct, but if it is not in the Quran, I am not following it.”- Rashad Khalifa, Friday Sermon, 1989 Conference.

“Principle is – if not in the Quran we do not follow it.” – Rashad Khalifa, 1989 conference speech video.

“In this conference, you’re going to hear lots of views, personal views from many people. Anybody can say anything they want. But your criterion is the Quran. If it is not in the Quran, don’t believe it. No matter who is talking to you. Very simple PRINCIPLE because this is what we follow.” – Rashad Khalifa, 1989 conference.

“God thus teaches us that even contemporary Sahaabah can misunderstand God’s messenger. We must uphold ONLY the Quran” – Rashad Khalifa, SP – July 1989.

“Quran is the final scripture. It is completion of the message.
The Quran is all you need. In fact, God said the Quran is complete, perfect and fully detailed. If you go to any other source you will be disobeying God.
You devote yourself completely to God alone and devote yourself to the word of God alone, the Quran alone.” – Rashad Khalifa, Essentials of Submission Video.

“I believe That the Quran is complete, perfect and fully detailed because God said so in the Quran.
Because God says in the Quran that the Quran is complete, perfect and fully detailed. Question is do you believe God or not? If you believe God, you believe that the Quran is complete, perfect and fully detailed.
…therefore, if you go to anything else, you are rejector of the Quran. You have rejected disbelieved God.
Quran is fully detailed. God says Quran is fully detailed. Therefore, you don’t need anything else.
The important point is that God says the Quran is complete, perfect and fully detailed. This is the important point.” – Rashad Khalifa, The Great Debate

“This (Quran) is the textbook. This is the manual” –  Rashad Khalifa, 1988 Conference

“As stated in 3:81 and 46:9, God’s Messenger of the Covenant does not bring anything new; everything I receive and pass on to you is already in the Quran.” – Rashad Khalifa, Feb 1990 SP.

“Our only source must be His Word – The Quran” – Rashad Khalifa, 1988 Conference

“The criterion of obeying the messenger is that whatever he says must be in the Quran and be backed up by what God is saying. If it is not in the Quran, it is your obligation to disobey him.  Actually, in the same Sura it says that. So, the reason when God says ‘Obey God and His messenger’ is because the messenger conveys the word of God.” – Rashad Khalifa, Dec 28, 1989, Q-study #39

“We follow only God. We follow only the word of God. As you know, I will be the first to tell you, if it is my opinion, if it is Rashad Khalifa, don’t follow him, because you will probably do the wrong thing. You must be sure you are following God and following the word of God and we will go to any extend to make sure we are following God and the word of God. We are not following the words of any human being.” –Rashad Khalifa, Friday Sermon, 1989 Conference.

“You know that if I tell you tell you anything that is not Quranic, you can tell me to get out of here and I will be the first to denounce that.
This is the final message. Everything is here. And we do not do anything that is not here.” – Rashad Khalifa, 1988 conference.

“If you follow Dr. Khalifa, you are not right. Anybody here, and we all know this, we do not follow any person and we emphasize here we are worshippers of God alone. We follow the word of God alone and if I say anything that is not in the Quran, contradicting the Quran, I am the first one to appreciate alerting me to this because then I am wrong. Nobody follows me.” – Rashad Khalifa – Great Debate

“Why are you disobeying the messenger when he tells you that the Quran is complete and fully detailed, and you should uphold the Quran alone. Why do you disobey him and go to something else? You see in the Quran (…. Arabic), so why don’t you listen and obey Allah and the Rasool?
“…So therefore, you are reciting these verses, if you obey the Rasool you will uphold the Quran, the whole Quran and nothing but the Quran. If you go to anything other than the Quran, you are not obeying the messenger.” – Rashad Khalifa, The Great Debate

“Our leader is the Quran. Our imam is the Quran. Our guide is the Quran, the word of God. We are worshippers of God alone.” – Rashad Khalifa, The Great Debate.

FROM QURAN, HADITH, AND ISLAM

One God / One Source

Our Almighty Creator commands that QURAN, specifically QURAN, SHALL BE THE ONLY SOURCE of religious teachings.

Furthermore, we are told that THE ACCEPTANCE OF ANY OTHER SOURCES for religious guidance equals the setting up of OTHER GODS BESIDE GOD:

“Say (O Muhammad), ‘Whose testimony is greater?’ Say, ‘God is the witness between me and you that THIS QURAN was given to me to preach it to you, and to whomever it reaches.’ However, you certainly bear witness that you set up other gods beside God (by upholding other sources beside Quran). Say, ‘I will never do what you are doing; I disown your idol worship.'” (6:19)

This profound verse, which happens to be verse [19] of Sura 6, enjoins the believers from upholding or following ANY OTHER SOURCE BESIDE QURAN, and that doing this is equivalent to the setting up of other gods beside God.

In the strictest possible language, we are commanded to uphold Quran, the whole Quran, and nothing but Quran.

Repeatedly, we are commanded to uphold Quran as the ONLY SOURCE OF RELIGIOUS GUIDANCE.

Again and again, we are reminded that the following of ANY OTHER SOURCE BESIDE QURAN EQUALS THE SETTING UP OF OTHER GODS BESIDE GOD.

Verses 22 through 38 of Sura 17 represent some of the most important commandments in Quran. Immediately following these verses we find the verse shown below:

“This is some of the wisdom revealed to you (in this Quran), and YOU SHALL NOT SET UP ANY OTHER GOD BESIDE GOD (by following any other source beside Quran). Otherwise, you will be thrown into hell, blamed and debased.” (17:39)

QURAN: AN EXTRAORDINARY BOOK

Despite the clear commandments, why do the followers of Hadith & Sunna fail to uphold Quran ALONE?

The answer is provided in the same Sura following the commandment shown on Page 8. Verses 45 and 46 of Sura 17 inform us that those who refuse to believe God and heed His commandment to uphold Quran ALONE are deliberately isolated from Quran. These two crucial verses are shown below:

“When you read the Quran, we place between you and those who do not believe in the Hereafter an invisible barrier. And we place shields on their hearts, to prevent them from understanding Quran, and deafness in their ears. Consequently, when you preach your Lord IN THE QURAN ALONE they run away in aversion.” (17:45-46)

WHAT MORE CAN WE SAY ??

DO YOU BELIEVE GOD OR NOT?

God says that Quran is COMPLETE, PERFECT, & FULLY DETAILED, and that you shall not seek any other source:

“We did not leave anything out of this book, then all will be gathered before their Lord (for judgment). Those who do not believe our verses are deaf and dumb; in total darkness. God sends astray whomever He wills, and directs whomever He wills in the right path.” (6:38-39)

“Shall I seek other than God as a source of law, when He revealed THIS BOOK FULLY DETAILED? (6:114)

“The word of your Lord is COMPLETE in truth & justice.” (6:115)

OBEYING THE MESSENGER IS CONDITIONED

Obeying the messenger is absolute only as far as the Quranic revelations are concerned.

Obeying the messenger is in upholding Quran, the whole Quran, and nothing but Quran.

Obedience is strictly ON CONDITION THAT the source is God through the messenger, and not the messenger who is no more than a human being, subject to errors.

The Quran emphasizes that obedience is absolute when the source is God, while the personal opinion of the messenger may be detrimental to him and/or to those who follow his personal opinions:

“Anything good that happens to you (O Muhammad) is from God. And anything bad that happens to you is from you. We have sent you as a messenger to the people, and God suffices as a witness. Whoever obeys the messenger is obeying God. As for those who turn away, we did not send you as their guardian.” (4:79-80)

Thus, the personal opinion of Muhammad may be bad, or may cause bad things to happen. On the other hand, Muhammad the messenger utters THE WORDS OF GOD, i.e., the Quran, and must be obeyed absolutely. For whoever obeys the messenger is obeying God, and we are to obey the commandments of God, not the commandments of men.

QURAN: THE ONLY LEGITIMATE “HADITH”

“These are God’s verses; we recite them for you truthfully. In which “Hadith”, beside God and His verses, do they believe in? WOE TO EVERY SINFUL FABRICATOR. He hears God’s verses, then insists arrogantly on his way, as if he never heard them; promise him painful retribution. When he learns anything from our verses, he takes it in vain; these have deserved humiliating retribution. Awaiting them is hell; neither their earnings, nor the idols they had set up beside God can help them; they have deserved terrible retribution. THIS IS THE GUIDANCE, and those who do not believe the verses of their Lord will suffer debasement, and painful retribution.” (45:6-11)

Do you believe God’s verses? Do you believe that Quran is complete, perfect, and fully detailed (6:19, 38, & 114)? Or, do you have to have other sources beside Quran?

Quran is the only “Hadith” to be followed; all other Hadiths are blasphemous and misleading fabrications:

“God has revealed the best ‘Hadith’; a book that is consistent, and describes both ways (to heaven and Hell). The skins of those who reverence their Lord shudder therefrom, then their skins and hearts soften up and receive God’s message. Such is God’s guidance; He guides whomever He wills. As for those sent astray by Him, no one can guide them.” (39:23)

“There are those who advocate vain ‘Hadith’ causing diversion from the path of God, without knowledge, and fail to take such actions seriously; these have deserved humiliating retribution. And when our verses are recited to him, he turns away arrogantly, as if he never heard them; as if his ears are deaf; promise him painful retribution.” (31:67)

OBEY GOD AND OBEY THE MESSENGER

Satan succeeded in duping millions of Muslims into believing that obeying God means obeying the Quran, while obeying the messenger means obeying Hadith.

What helped in popularizing this Satanic trick was the general ignorance of Quran among the Muslim masses, and their failure to heed the divine commandments that Quran shall be the ONLY SOURCE of jurisprudence and/or religious guidance.

Only a little thinking leads us to realize that Quran came to us through Muhammad’s mouth, and DID NOT COME TO US FROM GOD DIRECTLY. Hence the commandment that we shall obey the messenger…for he utters the words of God.

When we seek “religious” instructions from Muhammad, or any other source beside God, we support Satan in his claim that God needs a partner. Therefore, those who worship God ALONE follow the instructions and teachings of GOD ALONE. As shown throughout this book, God’s teachings are complete, perfect, and fully detailed in Quran.

FINALLY: MOST IMPORTANT QUESTION

In your mind, can God survive ALONE???

Or, does God need Muhammad, in your mind, in order to be commemorated and worshiped???

In your mind, can GOD ALONE survive?

Or, does God need a partner, in your mind, such as Muhammad, Jesus, Mary, or some saint(s)???

Would you be perfectly happy and content if you knew about GOD ALONE, without Muhammad, Jesus, Mary, or any saint, or anyone, or anything?

Are you annoyed by talking about GOD ALONE?

When I keep talking about GOD ALONE, does this annoy you? Do you have to hear other names along with God? Can GOD ALONE survive in your mind?

When I repeat, and repeat, my talk about GOD ALONE, do you feel any repulsion? Or, are you happy and content with the talk about GOD ALONE??? Based on the Great Quranic criterion, as stated in 39:45, your answers to these questions provide the key to knowing yourself, and your destiny.

Violent verses of the Quran

TROP has something in common with the traditional Muslims and the extremists. They all uphold Hadith and Sunnah in defiance of the Quran.

The Quran is a fully detailed scripture and condemns all hadith (narration) other than the Quran itself. It does so by name in numerous verses. TROP, traditional Muslims and the extremists draw the conclusions they want to draw about verses of the Quran by linking a specific verse to a hadith of their choice. After all, the difference between the Shias and Sunnis is not about the Quran but hadith of their choice linked to the Quran.

The first book of Hadith was written 200+ years after the revelation of the Quran with various factions and their scholars writing hadith to suit their needs.

Dr. Fred Donner, scholar of Islam and Professor of Near Eastern History at the University of Chicago, in his pioneering research demonstrates with philological and archaeological research that early Islam expanded rapidly with very little violence, if any.

[60:8]  GOD does not enjoin you from befriending those who do not fight you because of religion, and do not evict you from your homes. You may befriend them and be equitable towards them. GOD loves the equitable.

[60:9]  GOD enjoins you only from befriending those who fight you because of religion, evict you from your homes, and band together with others to banish you. You shall not befriend them. Those who befriend them are the transgressors.

We have reproduced the verses referred to TROP on violent verses on the Quran.

[2:190]  You may fight in the cause of GOD against those who attack you, but do not aggress. GOD does not love the aggressors.

[2:191]  You may kill those who wage war against you, and you may evict them whence they evicted you. Oppression is worse than murder. Do not fight them at the Sacred Masjid, unless they attack you therein. If they attack you, you may kill them. This is the just retribution for those disbelievers.

[2:192]  If they refrain, then GOD is Forgiver, Most Merciful.

[2:193]  You may also fight them to eliminate oppression, and to worship GOD freely. If they refrain, you shall not aggress; aggression is permitted only against the aggressors.

[2:194]  During the Sacred Months, aggression may be met by an equivalent response. If they attack you, you may retaliate by inflicting an equitable retribution. You shall observe GOD and know that GOD is with the righteous.

+++

[2:243]  Have you noted those who fled their homes – though they were in the thousands – fearing death? GOD said to them, “Die,” then revived them. GOD showers His grace upon the people, but most people are unappreciative.

[2:244]  You shall fight in the cause of GOD, and know that GOD is Hearer, Knower.

[2:245]  Who would lend GOD a loan of righteousness, to have it repaid to them multiplied manifold? GOD is the One who provides and withholds, and to Him you will be returned.

[2:246]  Have you noted the leaders of Israel after Moses? They said to their prophet, “If you appoint a king to lead us, we will fight in the cause of GOD.” He said, “Is it your intention that, if fighting is decreed for you, you will not fight?” They said, “Why should we not fight in the cause of GOD, when we have been deprived of our homes, and our children?” Yet, when fighting was decreed for them, they turned away, except a few. GOD is aware of the transgressors.

+++

[2:216]  Fighting may be imposed on you, even though you dislike it. But you may dislike something which is good for you, and you may like something which is bad for you. GOD knows while you do not know.

[2:217]  They ask you about the Sacred Months and fighting therein: say, “Fighting therein is a sacrilege. However, repelling from the path of GOD and disbelieving in Him and in the sanctity of the Sacred Masjid, and evicting its people, are greater sacrileges in the sight of GOD. Oppression is worse than murder.” They will always fight you to revert you from your religion, if they can. Those among you who revert from their religion, and die as disbelievers, have nullified their works in this life and the Hereafter. These are the dwellers of Hell, wherein they abide forever.

+++

[3:54]  They plotted and schemed, but so did GOD, and GOD is the best schemer.

[3:55]  Thus, GOD said, “O Jesus, I am terminating your life, raising you to Me, and ridding you of the disbelievers. I will exalt those who follow you above those who disbelieve, till the Day of Resurrection. Then to Me is the ultimate destiny of all of you, then I will judge among you regarding your disputes.

[3:56]  “As for those who disbelieve, I will commit them to painful retribution in this world, and in the Hereafter. They will have no helpers.”

[3:57]  As for those who believe and lead a righteous life, He will fully recompense them. GOD does not love the unjust.

+++

[3:150]  GOD alone is your Lord and Master, and He is the best supporter.

[3:151]  We will throw terror into the hearts of those who disbelieved, since they set up besides GOD powerless idols. Their destiny is Hell; what a miserable abode for the transgressors!

[3:152]  GOD has fulfilled His promise to you, and you defeated them by His leave. But then you wavered, disputed among yourselves, and disobeyed after He had shown you (the victory) you had longed for. But then, some of you became distracted by the spoils of this world, while others were rightly concerned with the Hereafter. He then diverted you from them to test you. He has pardoned you. GOD showers the believers with His grace.

[3:153]  Recall that you rushed (after the spoils), paying no attention to anyone, even when the messenger was calling from behind you. Consequently, He substituted one misery for another, that you may not grieve over anything you had missed, or agonize over any hardship you had suffered. GOD is Cognizant of everything you do.

[3:154]  After the setback, He sent down upon you peaceful slumber that pacified some of you. Others among you were selfishly concerned about themselves. They harbored thoughts about GOD that were not right – the same thoughts they had harbored during the days of ignorance. Thus, they said, “Is anything up to us?” Say, “Everything is up to GOD.” They concealed inside themselves what they did not reveal to you. They said, “If it was up to us, none of us would have been killed in this battle.” Say, “Had you stayed in your homes, those destined to be killed would have crawled into their death beds.” GOD thus puts you to the test to bring out your true convictions, and to test what is in your hearts. GOD is fully aware of the innermost thoughts.

[3:155]  Surely, those among you who turned back the day the two armies clashed have been duped by the devil. This reflects some of the (evil) works they had committed. GOD has pardoned them. GOD is Forgiver, Clement.

[3:156]  O you who believe, do not be like those who disbelieved and said of their kinsmen who traveled or mobilized for war, “Had they stayed with us, they would not have died or gotten killed.” GOD renders this a source of grief in their hearts. GOD controls life and death. GOD is Seer of everything you do.

+++

[4:71]  O you who believe, you shall remain alert, and mobilize as individuals, or mobilize all together.

[4:72]  Surely, there are those among you who would drag their feet, then, if a setback afflicts you, they would say, “GOD has blessed me that I was not martyred with them.”

[4:73]  But if you attain a blessing from GOD, they would say, as if no friendship ever existed between you and them, “I wish I was with them, so I could share in such a great victory.”

[4:74]  Those who readily fight in the cause of GOD are those who forsake this world in favor of the Hereafter. Whoever fights in the cause of GOD, then gets killed, or attains victory, we will surely grant him a great recompense.

[4:75]  Why should you not fight in the cause of GOD when weak men, women, and children are imploring: “Our Lord, deliver us from this community whose people are oppressive, and be You our Lord and Master.”

[4:76]  Those who believe are fighting for the cause of GOD, while those who disbelieve are fighting for the cause of tyranny. Therefore, you shall fight the devil’s allies; the devil’s power is nil.

+++

[4:88]  Why should you divide yourselves into two groups regarding hypocrites (among you)? GOD is the one who condemned them because of their own behavior. Do you want to guide those who are sent astray by GOD? Whomever GOD sends astray, you can never find a way to guide them.

[4:89]  They wish that you disbelieve as they have disbelieved, then you become equal. Do not consider them friends, unless they mobilize along with you in the cause of GOD. If they turn against you, you shall fight them, and you may kill them when you encounter them in war. You shall not accept them as friends, or allies.

[4:90]  Exempted are those who join people with whom you have signed a peace treaty, and those who come to you wishing not to fight you, nor fight their relatives. Had GOD willed, He could have permitted them to fight against you. Therefore, if they leave you alone, refrain from fighting you, and offer you peace, then GOD gives you no excuse to fight them.

[4:91]  You will find others who wish to make peace with you, and also with their people. However, as soon as war erupts, they fight against you. Unless these people leave you alone, offer you peace, and stop fighting you, you may fight them when you encounter them. Against these, we give you a clear authorization.

+++

[4:95]  Not equal are the sedentary among the believers who are not handicapped, and those who strive in the cause of GOD with their money and their lives. GOD exalts the strivers with their money and their lives above the sedentary. For both, GOD promises salvation, but GOD exalts the strivers over the sedentary with a great recompense.

[4:96]  The higher ranks come from Him, as well as forgiveness and mercy. GOD is Forgiver, Most Merciful.

+++

[4:102]  When you are with them, and lead the Contact Prayer (Salat) for them, let some of you stand guard; let them hold their weapons, and let them stand behind you as you prostrate. Then, let the other group that has not prayed take their turn praying with you, while the others stand guard and hold their weapons. Those who disbelieved wish to see you neglect your weapons and your equipment, in order to attack you once and for all. You commit no error, if you are hampered by rain or injury, by putting down your weapons, so long as you remain alert. GOD has prepared for the disbelievers a shameful retribution.

[4:103]  Once you complete your Contact Prayer (Salat), you shall remember GOD while standing, sitting, or lying down. Once the war is over, you shall observe the Contact Prayers (Salat); the Contact Prayers (Salat) are decreed for the believers at specific times.

[4:104]  Do not waver in pursuing the enemy. If you suffer, they also suffer. However, you expect from GOD what they never expect. GOD is Omniscient, Most Wise.

+++

[5:32]  Because of this, we decreed for the Children of Israel that anyone who murders any person who had not committed murder or horrendous crimes, it shall be as if he murdered all the people. And anyone who spares a life, it shall be as if he spared the lives of all the people. Our messengers went to them with clear proofs and revelations, but most of them, after all this, are still transgressing.

[5:33]  The just retribution for those who fight GOD and His messenger, and commit horrendous crimes, is to be killed, or crucified, or to have their hands and feet cut off on alternate sides, or to be banished from the land. This is to humiliate them in this life, then they suffer a far worse retribution in the Hereafter.

A note on verse 5:33. The only other verses referring to ‘crucified/crucify’ or ‘cutting the hand and feet on the alternate side’ are 4:157, 7:124, 12:41, 20:71 and 26:49. They refer to Jesus, prisoner with Joseph and Pharaoh.

This is an allegorical verse which states that the punishment for ‘horrendous crimes and fighting God and His messenger’ should be as bad as the examples in the other verses, but should not be taken literally.

[5:34]  Exempted are those who repent before you overcome them. You should know that GOD is Forgiver, Most Merciful.

[8:7]  Recall that GOD promised you victory over a certain group, but you still wanted to face the weaker group. It was GOD’s plan to establish the truth with His words, and to defeat the disbelievers.

[8:8]  For He has decreed that the truth shall prevail, and the falsehood shall vanish, in spite of the evildoers.

[8:9]  Thus, when you implored your Lord to come to the rescue, He responded to you: “I am supporting you with one thousand angels in succession.”

[8:10]  GOD gave you this good news to strengthen your hearts. Victory comes only from GOD. GOD is Almighty, Most Wise.

[8:11]  He caused peaceful slumber to overtake you and pacify you, and He sent down water from the sky to clean you therewith. He protected you from the devil’s curse, reassured your hearts and strengthened your foothold.

[8:12]  Recall that your Lord inspired the angels: “I am with you; so support those who believed. I will throw terror into the hearts of those who disbelieved. You may strike them above the necks, and you may strike even every finger.”

[8:13]  This is what they have justly incurred by fighting GOD and His messenger. For those who fight against GOD and His messenger, GOD’s retribution is severe.

[8:14]  This is to punish the disbelievers; they have incurred the retribution of Hell.

[8:15]  O you who believe, if you encounter the disbelievers who have mobilized against you, do not turn back and flee.

[8:16]  Anyone who turns back on that day, except to carry out a battle plan, or to join his group, has incurred wrath from GOD, and his abode is Hell; what a miserable destiny!

+++

[8:39]  You shall fight them to ward off oppression, and to practice your religion devoted to GOD alone. If they refrain from aggression, then GOD is fully Seer of everything they do.

[8:54]  Such was the case with the people of Pharaoh and others before them. They first rejected the signs of their Lord. Consequently, we annihilated them for their sins. We drowned Pharaoh’s people; the wicked were consistently punished.

[8:55]  The worst creatures in the sight of GOD are those who disbelieved; they cannot believe.

[8:56]  You reach agreements with them, but they violate their agreements every time; they are not righteous.

[8:57]  Therefore, if you encounter them in war, you shall set them up as a deterrent example for those who come after them, that they may take heed.

[8:58]  When you are betrayed by a group of people, you shall mobilize against them in the same manner. GOD does not love the betrayers.

[8:59]  Let not those who disbelieve think that they can get away with it; they can never escape.

[8:60]  You shall prepare for them all the power you can muster, and all the equipment you can mobilize, that you may frighten the enemies of GOD, your enemies, as well as others who are not known to you; GOD knows them. Whatever you spend in the cause of GOD will be repaid to you generously, without the least injustice.

[8:61]  If they resort to peace, so shall you, and put your trust in GOD. He is the Hearer, the Omniscient.

[8:62]  If they want to deceive you, then GOD will suffice you. He will help you with His support, and with the believers.

[8:63]  He has reconciled the hearts (of the believers). Had you spent all the money on earth, you could not reconcile their hearts. But GOD did reconcile them. He is Almighty, Most Wise.

[8:64]  O you prophet, sufficient for you is GOD and the believers who have followed you.

[8:65]  O you prophet, you shall exhort the believers to fight. If there are twenty of you who are steadfast, they can defeat two hundred, and a hundred of you can defeat a thousand of those who disbelieved. That is because they are people who do not understand.

[8:66]  Now (that many new people have joined you) GOD has made it easier for you, for He knows that you are not as strong as you used to be. Henceforth, a hundred steadfast believers can defeat two hundred, and a thousand of you can defeat two thousand by GOD’s leave. GOD is with those who steadfastly persevere.

+++

[9:4]  If the idol worshipers sign a peace treaty with you, and do not violate it, nor band together with others against you, you shall fulfill your treaty with them until the expiration date. GOD loves the righteous.

[9:5]  Once the Sacred Months are past, (and they refuse to make peace) you may kill the idol worshipers when you encounter them, punish them, and resist every move they make. If they repent and observe the Contact Prayers (Salat) and give the obligatory charity (Zakat), you shall let them go. GOD is Forgiver, Most Merciful.

[9:6]  If one of the idol worshipers sought safe passage with you, you shall grant him safe passage, so that he can hear the word of GOD, then send him back to his place of security. That is because they are people who do not know.

[9:7]  How can the idol worshipers demand any pledge from GOD and from His messenger? Exempted are those who have signed a peace treaty with you at the Sacred Masjid. If they honor and uphold such a treaty, you shall uphold it as well. GOD loves the righteous.

[9:8]  How can they (demand a pledge) when they never observed any rights of kinship between you and them, nor any covenant, if they ever had a chance to prevail. They pacified you with lip service, while their hearts were in opposition, and most of them are wicked.

+++

[9:12]  If they violate their oaths after pledging to keep their covenants, and attack your religion, you may fight the leaders of paganism – you are no longer bound by your covenant with them – that they may refrain.

[9:13]  Would you not fight people who violated their treaties, tried to banish the messenger, and they are the ones who started the war in the first place? Are you afraid of them? GOD is the One you are supposed to fear, if you are believers.

[9:14]  You shall fight them, for GOD will punish them at your hands, humiliate them, grant you victory over them, and cool the chests of the believers.

+++

[9:20]  Those who believe, and emigrate, and strive in the cause of GOD with their money and their lives, are far greater in rank in the sight of GOD. These are the winners.

+++

[9:29]  You shall fight back against those who do not believe in GOD, nor in the Last Day, nor do they prohibit what GOD and His messenger have prohibited, nor do they abide by the religion of truth – among those who received the scripture – until they pay the due tax, willingly or unwillingly.

[9:30]  The Jews said, “Ezra is the son of GOD,” while the Christians said, “Jesus is the son of GOD!” These are blasphemies uttered by their mouths. They thus match the blasphemies of those who have disbelieved in the past. GOD condemns them. They have surely deviated.

+++

[9:38]  O you who believe, when you are told, “Mobilize in the cause of GOD,” why do you become heavily attached to the ground? Have you chosen this worldly life in place of the Hereafter? The materials of this world, compared to the Hereafter, are nil.

[9:39]  Unless you mobilize, He will commit you to painful retribution and substitute other people in your place; you can never hurt Him in the least. GOD is Omnipotent.

[9:40]  If you fail to support him (the messenger), GOD has already supported him. Thus, when the disbelievers chased him, and he was one of two in the cave, he said to his friend, “Do not worry; GOD is with us.” GOD then sent down contentment and security upon him, and supported him with invisible soldiers. He made the word of the disbelievers lowly. GOD’s word reigns supreme. GOD is Almighty, Most Wise.

[9:41]  You shall readily mobilize, light or heavy, and strive with your money and your lives in the cause of GOD. This is better for you, if you only knew.

[9:42]  If there were a quick material gain, and a short journey, they would have followed you. But the striving is just too much for them. They will swear by GOD: “If we could, we would have mobilized with you.” They thus hurt themselves, and GOD knows that they are liars.

[9:43]  GOD has pardoned you: why did you give them permission (to stay behind), before you could distinguish those who are truthful from the liars?

[9:44]  Those who truly believe in GOD and the Last Day do not ask your permission to evade the opportunity to strive with their money and their lives. GOD is fully aware of the righteous.

[9:45]  The only people who wish to be excused are those who do not really believe in GOD and the Last Day. Their hearts are full of doubt, and their doubts cause them to waver.

+++

[9:71]  The believing men and women are allies of one another. They advocate righteousness and forbid evil, they observe the Contact Prayers (Salat) and give the obligatory charity (Zakat), and they obey GOD and His messenger. These will be showered by GOD’s mercy. GOD is Almighty, Most Wise.

[9:72]  GOD promises the believing men and the believing women gardens with flowing streams, wherein they abide forever, and magnificent mansions in the gardens of Eden. And GOD’s blessings and approval are even greater. This is the greatest triumph.

[9:73]  O you prophet, strive against the disbelievers and the hypocrites, and be stern in dealing with them. Their destiny is Hell; what a miserable abode!

[9:88]  As for the messenger and those who believed with him, they eagerly strive with their money and their lives. These have deserved all the good things; they are the winners.

[9:107]  There are those who abuse the masjid by practicing idol worship, dividing the believers, and providing comfort to those who oppose GOD and His messenger. They solemnly swear: “Our intentions are honorable!” GOD bears witness that they are liars.

[9:108]  You shall never pray in such a masjid. A masjid that is established on the basis of righteousness from the first day is more worthy of your praying therein. In it, there are people who love to be purified. GOD loves those who purify themselves.

[9:109]  Is one who establishes his building on the basis of reverencing GOD and to gain His approval better, or one who establishes his building on the brink of a crumbling cliff, that falls down with him into the fire of Hell? GOD does not guide the transgressing people.

[9:110]  Such a building that they have established remains a source of doubt in their hearts, until their hearts are stilled. GOD is Omniscient, Most Wise.

[9:111]  GOD has bought from the believers their lives and their money in exchange for Paradise. Thus, they fight in the cause of GOD, willing to kill and get killed. Such is His truthful pledge in the Torah, the Gospel, and the Quran – and who fulfills His pledge better than GOD? You shall rejoice in making such an exchange. This is the greatest triumph.

[9:112]  They are the repenters, the worshipers, the praisers, the meditators, the bowing and prostrating, the advocators of righteousness.

[18:60]  Moses said to his servant, “I will not rest until I reach the point where the two rivers meet, no matter how long it takes.”

[18:61]  When they reached the point where they met, they forgot their fish, and it found its way back to the river, sneakily.

[18:62]  After they passed that point, he said to his servant, “Let us have lunch. All this traveling has thoroughly exhausted us.”

[18:63]  He said, “Remember when we sat by the rock back there? I paid no attention to the fish. It was the devil who made me forget it, and it found its way back to the river, strangely.”

[18:64]  (Moses) said, “That was the place we were looking for.” They traced their steps back.

[18:65]  They found one of our servants, whom we blessed with mercy, and bestowed upon him from our own knowledge.

[18:66]  Moses said to him, “Can I follow you, that you may teach me some of the knowledge and the guidance bestowed upon you?”

[18:67]  He said, “You cannot stand to be with me.

[18:68]  “How can you stand that which you do not comprehend?”

[18:69]  He said, “You will find me, GOD willing, patient. I will not disobey any command you give me.”

[18:70]  He said, “If you follow me, then you shall not ask me about anything, unless I choose to tell you about it.”

[18:71]  So they went. When they boarded a ship, he bore a hole in it. He said, “Did you bore a hole in it to drown its people? You have committed something terrible.”

[18:72]  He said, “Did I not say that you cannot stand to be with me?”

[18:73]  He said, “I am sorry. Do not punish me for my forgetfulness; do not be too harsh with me.”

[18:74]  So they went. When they met a young boy, he killed him. He said, “Why did you kill such an innocent person, who did not kill another person? You have committed something horrendous.”

[18:75]  He said, “Did I not tell you that you cannot stand to be with me?”

[18:76]  He said, “If I ask you about anything else, then do not keep me with you. You have seen enough apologies from me.”

[18:77]  So they went. When they reached a certain community, they asked the people for food, but they refused to host them. Soon, they found a wall about to collapse, and he fixed it. He said, “You could have demanded a wage for that!”

[18:78]  He said, “Now we have to part company. But I will explain to you everything you could not stand.

[18:79]  “As for the ship, it belonged to poor fishermen, and I wanted to render it defective. There was a king coming after them, who was confiscating every ship, forcibly.

[18:80]  “As for the boy, his parents were good believers, and we saw that he was going to burden them with his transgression and disbelief.

[18:81]  “We willed that your Lord substitute in his place another son; one who is better in righteousness and kindness.

[18:82]  “As for the wall, it belonged to two orphan boys in the city. Under it, there was a treasure that belonged to them. Because their father was a righteous man, your Lord wanted them to grow up and attain full strength, then extract their treasure. Such is mercy from your Lord. I did none of that of my own volition. This is the explanation of the things you could not stand.”

[47:3]  This is because those who disbelieve are following falsehood, while those who believe are following the truth from their Lord. GOD thus cites for the people their examples.

[47:4]  If you encounter (in war) those who disbelieve, you may strike the necks. If you take them as captives you may set them free or ransom them, until the war ends. Had GOD willed, He could have granted you victory, without war. But He thus tests you by one another. As for those who get killed in the cause of GOD, He will never put their sacrifice to waste.

[48:17]  The blind is not to be blamed, the crippled is not to be blamed, and the sick is not to be blamed. Those who obey GOD and His messenger, He will admit them into gardens with flowing streams. As for those who turn away, He will requite them with a painful retribution.

[48:18]  GOD is pleased with the believers who pledged allegiance to you under the tree. He knew what was in their hearts and, consequently, He blessed them with contentment, and rewarded them with an immediate victory.

[48:29]  Muhammad – the messenger of GOD – and those with him are harsh and stern against the disbelievers, but kind and compassionate amongst themselves. You see them bowing and prostrating, as they seek GOD’s blessings and approval. Their marks are on their faces, because of prostrating. This is the same example as in the Torah. Their example in the Gospel is like plants that grow taller and stronger, and please the farmers. He thus enrages the disbelievers. GOD promises those among them who believe, and lead a righteous life, forgiveness and a great recompense.

[61:2]  O you who believe, why do you say what you do not do?

[61:3]  Most abominable in the sight of GOD is that you say what you do not do.

[61:10]  O you who believe, let Me inform you of a trade that will save you from painful retribution.

[61:11]  Believe in GOD and His messenger and strive in the cause of GOD with your money and your lives. This is the best deal for you, if you only knew.

[61:12]  In return, He forgives your sins, and admits you into gardens with flowing streams, with beautiful mansions in the gardens of Eden. This is the greatest triumph.

[61:13]  Additionally, you get something you truly love: support from GOD and guaranteed victory. Give good news to the believers.

They will say, “Our Lord, perfect our light for us, and forgive us; You are Omnipotent.”

[66:9]  O prophet, struggle against the disbelievers and the hypocrites and be stern with them. Their abode is Gehenna, and a miserable destiny.

Admission Test – Q & A

Does the Quran mention Tests?

 The Quran is clear about tests. Anyone who claims to be a submitter will be tested (29:2-3; 2:124, 143, 155; 3:154; 5:48, 5:94; 6:42, 165; 18:7; 20:131; 37:106; 47:31; 3:186; 33:11).

[3:154]…GOD thus puts you to the test to bring out your true convictions, and to test what is in your hearts. GOD is fully aware of the innermost thoughts.

[5:48] …But He thus puts you to the test through the revelations He has given each of you. You shall compete in righteousness.

[47:31] We will certainly put you to the test, in order to distinguish those among you who strive, and steadfastly persevere. We must expose your true qualities.

Is ‘admission test’ mentioned in the Quran?

‘Admission test’ is not mentioned in the Quran.  However, the Quran gives two examples of an admittance test (You are admitted – you are in). One is to test an orphan in 4:6 and the other believing woman seeking asylum during war.

Even though not mentioned in the Quran, what is the concept of ‘admission test’, if any?

The Christian concept of being ‘born again’ has a Quranic basis. At some point a human being after studying the point of view of God and the point of view of Satan will have to make a decision if he/she accepts God’s point of view.

This takes place when an individual makes a commitment (2:112, 131; 31:22, 40:13) to uphold God’s point of view, to worship God alone, uphold the scripture and dedicate the religious practices to God alone.  The individual has made a commitment to be a submitter to God alone.

The (new) submitter will then have tests in which he/she will have to make a decision either to abide by God’s laws in the Quran or not, under all circumstances.

All the submitters who have made this commitment and who subsequently live up to their commitment (15:99) experience these words from verse 2:118 which form an incredible blessing from God, “We do manifest the miracles for those who have attained certainty.” Submitters experience miracles in their life, some associated with the number 19, designed by God exclusively for that submitter. These miracles also provide the clear recognition of presence of God and a great subsequent blessing of being stripped of worry in this life.

Do the tests ever cease?

If a submitter keeps up the worship of God alone with religious practices dedicated to God alone, the tests do not cease. In our lives (8:28; 64:15), as we go through the challenges of our daily life the tests continue. There are numerous verses in the Quran with the words test or tested and no verse which indicates that the tests will stop.

If an individual gets away from the worship of God alone, the tests will cease. That individual will join the vast majority of humans who either don’t believe in God or believe in God associated with idols (12:103, 12:106). These individuals at that point would have stepped out of God’s Protection (4:132) and will become oblivious of God. The truth of 2:118, “miracles for those who have attained certainty” becomes alien to them. If they are tested or a retribution befalls them they will not recognize it as such.

Do the miracles cease?

The miracles (2:118) too will cease for those who have stepped out of God’s Protection per the example above.

Does the Quran state that submitters may be ill or sick?

The Quran does point out that a submitter may be ill (2:184, 2:185, 2:196, 4:43, 5:6, 9;91, 73:20), weak (4:98, 9:91), sick (26:80, 48:17), poor (2:236, 9:79, 24:32, 53:48, 65:7), blind (24:61, 80:2) or crippled/handicapped (24:61, 48:17). In 2:180 we are commanded to write a will when “death approaches.”

Do the above verses not expose the fallacious belief of some that if a person dies of any illness (headache or cancer or anything in between), he/she failed the ‘admission test’ and thus destined for the worst in the Hereafter?

Yes, absolutely! It is unfortunate that some take the messenger’s words of conceptual explanations as a source of law in defiance of God and His Messenger (6:114-115). The messenger’s words or phrases of ‘God’s Kingdom’, ‘Satan’s Kingdom’, ‘Perfect Health’ or ‘Perfect Wealth’ are all conceptual and are not the phrases of the Quran.

Can we state that the disagreement about ‘admission tests’ boils down to death or cause of death?

Yes. It is a very unfortunate conclusion by some which has no Quranic basis or foundation. Their conclusion essentially states that if a person dies with any illness (headache or cancer or anything in between), that person has failed ‘admission test’ and is thus in Satan’s domain.

Does this conclusion by them not cause a serious problem when we add to God’s Criteria of Judgment in the Hereafter?

Absolutely! Dr. Rashad Khalifa picked verses 2:62 and 5:69 for the inside cover of his authorized translation of the Quran.   Those verses specifically mention “anyone who (1) believes in GOD, and (2) believes in the Last Day, and (3) leads a righteous life, will receive their recompense from their Lord.”  God defines righteousness in 2:177. We can also conclude that a person who is knowledgeable or aware of the Quran has to abide by all the verses of the Quran. No verse of the Quran makes any suggestion that the cause of death would be one of the criterion for judgment for Heaven or Hell in the Hereafter.

So why do submitters who claim to worship God alone add cause of death to God’s criteria of judgment in the Hereafter?

They refer to verses 4:78-79 and 42:30 to make the point that anything bad which happens to anyone is a consequence of that person’s deeds. And they are absolutely correct as those verses clearly state, “anything bad that happens to you is a consequence of your own deeds.”

However, the verses have nothing to do with the process of death, when the temporary garment (the body) is shed and the soul moves to Heaven (for the righteous). The process of death and the shedding of the temporary garment could be minutes (headache), days, weeks, months or years. God provided the example of Dr. Rashad Khalifa’s niece who passed away with cancer under the age of 40. She attended two conferences while she had terminal cancer.

If according to them, if a person dies with any illness (headache or cancer or anything in between), how is the righteous submitter supposed to die other than honorable exit of the messenger of the covenant?

There is no answer so far from them, whether based on the Quran or not.

Does the Quran have any examples of death of righteous believers other than the honorable exit of Jesus or Rashad Khalifa?

The Quran gives the examples of Jacob on his death bed. Obviously he and others knew he was dying and about to shed his temporary garment, the body. Jacob also advised his children, “do not die except as submitters.” Jacob did not say “do not die because of headache or any illness.”

This leads to an obvious question – what is their source for making up rules and regulation which have no basis in the Quran?

It is their misunderstanding of some footnotes, audio and video tapes left by Dr. Rashad Khalifa. To them the (misunderstood) words of Dr. Rashad Khalifa are more important than the words of God in the Quran. The fact that God’s words are complete in the Quran and the only source of law (6:114-115) is unacceptable to them.

Is there a history of basing up rules and laws on audio and video tapes?

Unfortunately, yes.  There may be others, but the two I personally know off, other than the issue above; are the audible intention to pray of a person leading the group prayers and the placement and sitting on chairs during the Khutba of Friday prayers. Both of these innovations originated because of misunderstanding the audio/video tapes and the words of Dr. Rashad Khalifa.

Is this not a blessing that God made display of the attempted innovations so public and clear; and we could learn from it?

Absolutely! God also provided the examples of the process of death for Dr. Khalifa’s niece and recent passing away of Abdullah Arik. The blessings are for those whose religion is based on God’s words in the Quran.

What about numerous verses such as 10:62-64; 22:15; 41:30-31; 16:30,97; 20:130; 39:17; 90:18; 91;7 in the Quran about happiness.

Essentially the verses point to the fact that “happiness is an exclusive quality of the soul” as pointed out by the messenger in the Introduction and Appendix 15.

What is the solution?

In the end the solution lies in God’s scripture – the words of the Quran. The solution is for any individual who makes a decision to accept God’s assertion that all wisdom and all religious laws are within the words of the Quran. The solution lies in the DECISION to worship God alone and thus uphold God’s words in the Quran.

What would the messenger have said of the above solution?

The messenger provided the same solution as a principle to follow. Dr. Rashad Khalifa, God’s messenger of the Covenant, who had utterances of an honorable messenger, who explained (5:19) things to us, who provided sacred instructions (98:2), who was a guiding teacher (18:17), who recited what was revealed to him and the one who does not speak on his own (21:27); said the following:

  1. Principle is – if not in the Quran we do not follow it.” – Video 1989 conference speech.
  2. “We do not follow Rashad Khalifa, we follow the Quran alone and if I say anything that cannot be verified from Quran do not follow it” – Video – Great Debate
  3. God thus teaches us that even contemporary Sahaabah can misunderstand God’s messenger. We must uphold ONLY the Quran. – SP July 1989
  4. “As stated in 3:81 and 46:9, God’s Messenger of the Covenant does not bring anything new; everything I receive and pass on to you is already in the Quran.” – Rashad Khalifa, Feb 1990 SP.
  5. “The moment they seek guidance from ANYTHING BESIDES the Quran, no matter how ‘right’ it seems, they fall into Satan’s trap (see 63:1). For they have rejected God’s word and set up ANOTHER god besides God (18:57).” – Appendix 19, Dr. Rashad Khalifa

Idolatry Q&A

What is the Quran’s definition of idolatry?

The Quran mentions as idols – calf (2:51), children (7:190), property (18:42), humans (7:194), intercessors (10:18), Satan (14:22), jinns (6:100), other gods (4:117), prophets & messengers (3:79, 18:102), Jesus (5:72), ego (25:43) and following a source other than the Quran (6:19) is defined as idolatry.

Why would following a source other than Quran for law be considered idolatry?

Because the Quran explicitly states so. Verse 6:19 states that the greatest testimony is God’s words in the Quran. Seeking the words of anyone else as testimony is idolatry. In addition, God’s words in the 6346 verses of the Quran are COMPLETE (6:115) and the ONLY SOURCE (6:114, 18:27) of law.

What is law?

One definition is that law is a system of rules and guidelines which are enforced through social institutions to govern behavior. Statutory Law is the term used to define written laws, usually enacted by a legislative body. As submitters, if we claim to follow the Quran alone, the source of law is limited to God’s words in the Quran (6:114-115). The Quran is a statute book (2:185, 25:1) and is thus statutory law which unlike ‘Common Law’ is not based on precedents. Thus, as statutory law, the words of the Quran will always be and remain the only source of law. The words in a statute (verses) are given its plain, ordinary, and literal meaning.

God sent a messenger after all the prophets, who brought forth the great miracle of the Quran. Why should we not obey the messenger in numerous Quran verses which state “Obey God and His Messenger?”

The Quran commands us to obey God AND His messenger. It does not give us the luxury of obeying God OR His messenger. The inclusion of both God AND His messenger in the commandment boils down to the Quran, as God’s ‘ratification’ is in the words of the Quran.

Obey God and His Messenger

What about verse 4:80 which states “Whoever obeys the messenger is obeying God” and 49:1 which states, “do not place your opinion above that of GOD and His messenger?”

Verse 49:1 falls in the same category of obeying God AND His Messenger per above. In light of the Quran (5:101), so does verse 4:80. For example, by looking at the latter half of the Quran one may conclude that messengers bring scriptures (35:25, 57:25). However, in light of the whole Quran we know from 3:81 that only prophets bring scriptures while messengers confirm existing scriptures.

Here are four ‘obey the messenger’ teachings, all of which are sourced to the Quran:

  1. “We do not follow Rashad Khalifa, we follow the Quran alone and if I say anything that cannot be verified from Quran do not follow it” – Rashad Khalifa, Great Debate video
  1. “Principle is – if not in the Quran we do not follow it.” – Rashad Khalifa, 1989 conference speech video.
  1. God thus teaches us that even contemporary Sahaabah can misunderstand God’s messenger. We must uphold ONLY the Quran – Rashad Khalifa (SP – July 198).
  1. “As stated in 3:81 and 46:9, God’s Messenger of the Covenant does not bring anything new; everything I receive and pass on to you is already in the Quran.” – Rashad Khalifa, Feb 1990 SP.

Those who were with the messenger, including you had to obey him when he was alive. Now that he has died, we do not have to obey him?

It’s impossible to obey a dead messenger. It’s impossible for a dead messenger to judge about our affairs and our disputes (4:48, 4:65, 24:51). Even when he was alive the judgement was always based on God’s words in the Quran (5:48). The messenger’s focus was always God’s words in the Quran. And yes, the messenger left books, articles, video and audio recordings which contain his words. As we know and as the Quran proclaims, only God’s words in the Quran can be a source for law.

Those who were blessed to be with the messenger were tested in their interactions with the messenger (9:24) with various commandments when he was alive (24:62, 58:12).

The traditional Muslims to this day declare Muhammad IS a messenger of God.

What about the principal duties listed by God’s Messenger? Are we not to follow them? Are we to disregard them?

Each of the 14 duties listed refer to various verses of the Quran for each duty. In other words, they are all sourced to the Quran. For example, we believe that anyone who dies under the age of forty goes to Heaven because 46:15 states so and not because Rashad Khalifa said so. We thank God for His great blessing of sending the messenger who brought forth information embedded in the Quran and explanations which can all be sourced to the words of the Quran.

There is nothing in the principal duties nor in the appendices by which one may conclude that the words of the appendices (or footnotes or sub-headings) are a source of law. Bizarre as it may seem, there are submitters who consider the words of the appendices, footnotes, subheadings, etc. as words of God. For such submitters verses such as 6:114-115 which call the words of God as complete are discarded. It is also alien to them that ‘one of the great miracles’ is limited to the 6346 verses of the Quran. Their definition of the Quran might run a few paragraphs or to a page rather than the ‘6346 verses.’

It seems like you are asking us to disregard God’s messenger who did not speak on his own, provided explanations, was a guiding teacher and gave sacred instructions. Is that correct?

No, it is not correct. It is simply being pointed out that the messenger’s words cannot be a source of law. None of the messenger’s words which certainly qualify as explanations or instructions in his books, newsletters and videos/audios should be disregarded. They contain valuable information which includes embedded information from the Quran and should be accessible to any submitter or prospective submitter. When the messenger’s words are made a source of law, however, clear Quranic verses are violated. The Quran is explicit that the words of the Quran are the ONLY source for law (6:114).

Accepting Quran as the only source of law as commanded by our Creator does not mean we should disregard the messenger’s teachings as your question seems to suggest. The messenger’s teachings which include the miracle of the Quran reinforces that every word of the 6346 verses is from God and provides a perpetual proof for the present and future generations. Concealing such teachings including the miracle of the Quran is a crime. And indeed, it is a crime when in clear violation of the Quran, the words which constitute the teachings of the messenger (messenger’s words) are made a source for law. The words which make up law are limited to the Glorious Quran (6:19, 6:114-115).

The worshippers of God alone are constantly appreciative and thankful to God that He sent a messenger to bring forth the great miracle of the Quran and to direct us to worship God alone as per the scripture.

Are you denying that Rashad Khalifa received revelations from God?

In the February 1989, SP, Dr. Rashad Khalifa wrote, “As stated in 3:81 and 46:9, God’s Messenger of the Covenant does not bring anything new; everything I receive and pass on to you is already in the Quran” entitled as “New Major Revelation.”

Yes, Rashad Khalifa received revelations limited as stated by messenger himself to something which is already in the Quran. In other words, he received revelation about embedded information within the 6346 verses of the Quran.

The 6346 verses which constitutes God’s words in the Quran were revealed to Prophet Muhammad as the Final Scripture. Prophet Muhammad’s only duty was to deliver the Quran. The miracle of the Quran, embedded within the Quran was revealed to Rashad Khalifa who confirmed the existing scriptures (3:81). Like all previous messengers, Rashad Khalifa’s message was to worship God alone. He pointed out that we worship God alone by following the Quran, the whole Quran and nothing but the Quran.

The messenger preached from the Quran. How would following the authorized messenger’s explanations which came from the Quran, and who we are supposed to obey and trust, be considered in violation of 6:114 and 18:27?

‘Admission Test’ is a great conceptual explanation by the messenger which we agree with. The messenger’s conceptual explanation was based on the SOURCE – the words of God in the Quran, which we know to be COMPLETE for law (6:114-115).

When the messenger’s conceptual explanation and/or his words become the SOURCE, we see a corruption of the religion. Thus, using the messenger’s words ‘admission test’ as a SOURCE, it is proclaimed that anyone who dies with a headache or cancer or anything in between, failed the ‘admission test’ and thus destined for the worst in the Hereafter.

The words of statutory law (verses of the Quran) always remain the only source.

In English language, the Arabic word ‘shirk’ means association. In the above case the non-Quranic word ‘admission’ is associated with the Quranic word ‘test’ and religious conclusions are made on that association.

What is shirk?

Shirk is an Arabic word with a general meaning of “to share” or “associate.” The word Shirk in the Quran translates as idolatry, an unforgivable sin (4:48, 4:116). If anyone’s words other than God’s words are sourced for law it is tantamount to attributing partners with God.

Do you believe the messenger made mistakes? Can you give even one example of a mistake by the messenger or one example when his teaching did not conform to the Quran?

No, the messenger made no mistakes in the delivery of the message. You should consider your question’s implication. If the source of law are God’s words in the Quran, it becomes completely irrelevant whether the messenger made any mistakes or not. The messenger’s information is with us in his human words. None of the messenger’s human words can ever become a source for law as that source is limited to God’s words in the Quran.

The message was delivered complete (21:10) with no mistakes 1400 years prior to Rashad Khalifa.

Do you believe Rashad Khalifa was a messenger of God?

Yes, absolutely I do by God’s grace. This also gives me the opportunity to point out that this is exactly the question traditional Muslims ask when it is pointed out to them to obey and follow only God’s words in the Quran. They substitute Prophet Muhammad in the above question.

Dr. Rashad Khalifa pointed out that Muhammad the man disobeyed Muhammad the messenger in verse 33:35. Are we not supposed to obey Rashad the messenger? Even Rashad himself pointed out that he as a man (human), had to obey the information which came down to Rashad the messenger. Are we not obligated to follow Rashad the messenger?

All the words we have from the messenger whether written in books/newsletters/articles or spoken in audios/videos are his words (except when he was reciting the Quran). We do not have the freedom, if we are to accept God’s words in the Quran (6:19, 6:114-115), to accept any of Rashad’s word/s as a source for law. Thus, whether he acted as a human or messenger is not relevant at all. I might point out that God’s blessed me to be with the messenger. I only considered him as a messenger and I don’t know any other submitter, who was with him, who did not consider him only as a messenger.

When Dr. Rashad Khalifa said “don’t go by what I say, go by the Quran” in videos and newsletter, he meant, “don’t go by what I say as a human…”

Well, he did not say what you think he meant. And even if he had said it, it still makes no difference as in the end, his words (as a human or messenger) cannot be a source of law. Also, this reminder about what was said by the messenger (“don’t go by what I say, go by the Quran”) is not being made as a source of law or authority (Quran is the only source for law and authority) but to point out that some of you, do not follow the Quran nor do you follow the messenger.

Did the messenger preach against the Quran? He would not say anything against the Quran otherwise he would have been fired. Do you not believe God is the source for the messenger’s teachings?

As mentioned, the source for law is limited to God’s words in the Quran. And absolutely, the messenger did not teach against the Quran. Dr. Rashad Khalifa was a messenger of God, authorized by the Possessor of the Throne, who provided sacred instructions and did not speak on his own. It is obvious that God was the source of the messenger’s teachings which bring forth the embedded information within the Quran and the great miracle. Obviously, the Author of the Quran revealed the secrets embedded within the Quran to His messenger.

Equally obvious and clear is the fact that Dr. Rashad Khalifa was a human messenger who imparted all teachings in his human words. The worshippers of God alone submit to God’s words without hesitation that the source for law is limited to God’s words in the 6346 verses of the Quran and that those words are COMPLETE in the Quran.

Some submitters consider Rashad Khalifa, messenger of God, as infallible or his words as infallible.  Infallibility applies to God’s words in the Glorious Quran (2:2, 10:37). Ironically, this standard of infallibility is also a requirement for those who reject the Messenger of the Covenant, as they also incorrectly seek the infallibility criterion. I know submitters who previously considered Rashad Khalifa to be infallible and readily acknowledge it now. They also state that had anyone asked them if they believed Rashad Khalifa was infallible, they would have denied it, since they were unaware of that belief (6:23).

“Is it too much of a wonder that a reminder should come to you from your Lord, through a man like you, to warn you, and to lead you to righteousness, that you may attain mercy?” (7:63, see also 7:69, 10:2).

Can you give a single example of the messenger’s teachings which was not sourced in the Quran?

The messenger always advocated the Quran as the only source of law. The messenger’s preaching and explanation were sourced to the Quran. Just because his explanations were sourced to the Quran does not mean that his explanations ipso facto becomes the source of law. As a Statute Book the Quran ALWAYS remains the source of law irrespective of how many explanations were provided by the messenger. Thus, it is completely irrelevant whether the messenger said anything which cannot be sourced to the Quran.

The messenger interpreted the Quran for us. Are you not suggesting that we take away that right from the messenger and appropriate that right for yourself or ourselves?

The messenger’s message was to follow the Quran, the whole and nothing but the Quran. All his writings, talks, discussions were focused on the words of the Quran. There is no indication in any of his words that we should follow his words (his ‘interpretation’) over the words of the Quran. His ‘interpretation’ cannot become law since for statutory law one always goes back to the source (as the messenger always did). Neither is there any indication whatsoever in the Quran that any words other than God’s words in the 6346 verses of the Quran can be a source for law.

Once we accept the messenger, all verses in the Quran about the messenger such as 5:19, 98:2, 21:27, etc. apply. Why are you discarding those verses?

None of those verses are discarded. A worshipper of God alone accepts and follows ALL verses of the Quran. Indeed, the messenger provided instructions, explanations, did not speak on his own, brought forth the great miracle of the Quran and brought forth other embedded information from the Quran. NONE of the verses you refer to give us the freedom to make the messenger’s words a source of law. Submitters will submit without hesitation to God’s words in the Quran asserting that the words of God in the Quran are COMPLETE and the ONLY source for law.

In his final speech in the 1989 conference Rashad Khalifa said that the translation is God’s translation. All the words in the AEVQ are God’s words and we should not make any distinction among those words. Those words are God’s revelations. Why should any submitter not follow those words?

Dr. Rashad Khalifa announced his messengership in the May 1988 Submitters perspective  and clearly referred to his translation (and numerous other SPs).

“The role of the number 19 as God’s own signature on everything He created is reported in the new edition of my translation of the Koran (in preparation).” (http://www.masjidtucson.org/publications/books/sp/1988/may_2/page4.html)

Anyone listening to that video will notice that Dr. Khalifa in an exchange with an individual was being questioned about mistakes in his translation. His response was the Quranic truth that absolutely everything is controlled by God (and thus “God’s translation”). A few sentences later he declared that translation (“God’s translation”) as obsolete. To say that Dr. Khalifa in a speech declared his translation as God’s translation is a falsehood. There is absolutely nothing in the Quran and Dr. Khalifa’s writings supporting the falsehood that Dr. Khalifa’s translation is a translation by God.

If you worship God alone and BELIEVE what God states in the Quran you will have no hesitation in accepting that God’s words in the Quran are COMPLETE (6:115) and the only source for law (6:19, 6:114). There can be no other words of God after the Quran as God’s words are COMPLETE in the Quran. It’s a falsehood to state that all the words of AEVQ are God’s words. We know that 6346 verses of the Arabic Quran are God’s words.

None of the traditional Muslims consider any words outside the Quran as God’s words. It’s mind-boggling that some submitters after attaining knowledge of “one of the great miracles” enveloping the 6346 verses of the Quran, consider the messenger’s explanations or the messenger’s words, as words of God.

Indeed, when one gets away from worship of God alone, common sense is stripped from that individual.

If we revealed this Quran to a mountain, you would see it trembling, crumbling, out of reverence for GOD. We cite these examples for the people, that they may reflect. [59:21]

How would you respond to the November 1989 Submitters Perspective article written by Dr. Rashad Khalifa, entitled, ‘Hypocrites Proclaim: “We Do Not Need A Messenger.”’ The same article also states, ‘The Quran, without the Messenger, Misleads the Wicked.’

The above article is mostly posted by submitters who cannot respond to the above Quranic truths nor can come up with the words of the Quran to support their conviction of using Dr. Rashad Khalifa words as a source for law either exclusively or in association (shirk) with the words of the Quran.

By God’s grace we all accept God’s messenger of the Covenant and don’t say that we did not need a messenger. The Submitters Perspective Newsletter was written for, directed to and mailed to a mass audience the most prominent of whom were traditional Muslims.

And indeed, ‘the Quran, without the messenger, misleads the wicked.’ The proven word of the Quran (14:27) provides healing and mercy for the believers (17:41) and augments the aversion of the disbelievers.  We thank God that He sent a messenger well founded in knowledge who brought forth the great miracle of the Quran, the embedded information within the Quran and provided teachings as a guiding teacher – all based on God’s words of the Quran.

Nothing written in this SP article in any way obviates the Quranic truth that only God’s words in the Quran are the only source for law.

Well, what about the January 1990 Submitters Perspective entitled, “Old Trick by Satan’s Agents:”You worship Rashad,” they say!!!”?

It is unfortunate that in their desperation they don’t even read who the article is addressed to. The article was written for those “resorting to extremes: either idolize the Prophet Muhammad by mentioning his name in their Salat prayers and disobeying Quran, or attack God’s Messenger Rashad Khalifa.”

As stated before, nothing written in this SP article in any way obviates the Quranic truth that only God’s words in the Quran are the only source for law.

Do you not realize that when we follow the messenger, we follow the Quran?

When you follow the messenger, you are following the messenger. When you follow the Quran, you are following the Quran and will be readily quoting a verse to support a point of view. As pointed out before the Quran commands us to obey God AND His messenger. The Quran does not give us the luxury of obeying God OR His messenger. You cannot claim to follow the Quran alone by proxy by following the messenger’s words. You should at least be honest and truthfully state that you are following the messenger’s words.

Citing a source for a point of view is the most rudimentary aspect of exchange of ideas. When Quran is the source, the verses from the Quran are cited. When the messenger’s explanation is the source, be truthful (9:119) and cite the messenger.

Why do you bring this up especially as it is a source of consternation for various communities of submitters?

Idolatry is the only unforgivable offence (4:116). A reminder benefits the believers.

As submitters, we remind the traditional Muslims to follow the Quran and nothing but the Quran as the only source of law. We similarly remind the Christians and Jews to follow the Gospel and the Torah, and to study and follow the Quran.

Yet, we have submitters who uphold law which cannot be sourced to God’s words in the Quran but to the messenger’s words. Submitters who carry out this practice are laying a foundation for idolatry or worse, practicing idolatry themselves. Just like the traditional Muslims, they fail to uphold the words of God in the Quran as the only source for law. The traditional Muslims use words other than God’s words in the Quran for law. Some submitters do the same.

If we cannot uphold the Quran alone as indeed the Quran dictates and the messenger clearly stated, how can we pass the message to traditional Muslims to worship God alone and uphold the Quran alone?

What is the solution?

The solution lies in accepting, submitting to and obeying the simple and clear commandments in the Quran – that the words of God in the 6346 verse of the Quran are complete, perfect, only acceptable hadith (narration), fully detailed and the only source for law.

Reluctance to accept these basic truths from the Quran can only lead to one outcome – idolatry. If words of God in the Quran are not considered sufficient and other words are relied upon for law, it will most assuredly lead to idolatry thus establishing partners with God.

[25:30] The messenger said, “My Lord, my people have deserted this Quran.”

**

Please keep in mind that you are simply being reminded that the source of law are the 6346 verses of the Quran and that the words which comprise them are complete. If you perceive this as discounting the messenger’s teachings in any way, then you have simply not accepted the God’s words in 6:19, 6:114-115 and other verses of the Quran – that the words of the Quran (the Statute Book) are the ONLY source of law. Nor does this in any way introduce any element of doubt in Rashad Khalifa’s translation. After all, some of you cannot defend your beliefs based on his translation.

While God states in 21:10 that the scripture contains the message and while 6:114-115 state the scripture is complete and the only source; some of you believe that Rashad Khalifa had a message which was independent from the Quran and cannot be sourced to the Quran.

Quote from QURAN HADITH & ISLAM (by Rashad Khalifa)

The Islamic Jesus

The Islamic Jesus

Mr. Mustafa Akyol, a journalist and moderate Muslim. Quoting the write up in the above write up in Christian Science Monitor, “For starters, all three worship the God of Abraham. This is not breaking news, of course, but author Mustafa Akyol makes the most of this and other commonalities.”

The Quran advocates the absolute worship of God alone (“You shall not worship except God”) and for us not to make distinction among God’s Messengers.

The messenger has believed in what was sent down to him from his Lord, and so did the believers. They believe in GOD, His angels, His scripture, and His messengers: “We make no distinction among any of His messengers.” They say, “We hear, and we obey. Forgive us, our Lord. To You is the ultimate destiny.” [Quran 2:285]

This commandment is repeated in three other verses in the Quran.

The message of all messengers of God including Abraham, Jesus and Muhammad was the same – You shall not worship except God; also known as the First Commandment in the Torah, Gospel and the Quran.

The Arabic word “Islam” translates in English language as “Submission” and thus all messengers including Jesus and Muhammad practiced the Religion of Submission to God.

The Study Quran Translation

And when God is mentioned alone, the hearts of those who believe not in the Hereafter recoil. But when those apart from him are mentioned, behold, they rejoice. [39:45 – The Study Quran]

The translators of the Quran and the editors of THE STUDY QURAN validate that they do not follow nor observe God’s Words and commandments in the Quran. They demonstrate the condition of the majority of those who call themselves Muslims (the Arabic word Muslim translates in English as Submitter) who have either no knowledge of the Quran or if they do have the knowledge they simply do not obey God’s Words in the Quran.

Their translation (used here) states that the Quran is fully detailed for religious law and the only acceptable Hadith and Sunnah. BELIEF in God dictates that God should be BELIEVED. The editors and translators of this project do not believe nor submit to God’s own Words in the Quran.

QURAN – FULLY DETAILED

Say, “What thing is greatest as testimony?” Say, “God is witness between you and me. And this Quran has been revealed unto me, that thereby I may warn you and whomsoever it may reach. Do you bear witness there are other gods beside God?” say, “I bear no such witness.” Say, “He is only One God, and truly I am quit of that which you ascribe as partners unto him.” [6:19]

. . –We have neglected nothing in the book- . . [6:38]

(Say) “Shall I seek a judge apart from God, when it is He Who has sent down unto you the book, expounded?” Those unto whom We have given the Book know that it has been sent down from thy Lord in truth; so be not among the doubters. [6:114]

The Word of Thy Lord is fulfilled in truth and justice. None alters His Words, and He is the Hearing, the knowing. [6:115]

We have indeed brought them a Book, which We have expounded with knowledge, as a guidance and a mercy for a people who believe. [7:52]

Following a source other than Quran is but idolatry (18:27) as a god other than God is being followed for religious law.

RELIGION OF ABRAHAM

Islam (the Arabic word Islam translates in English as submission) is called the Religion of Abraham in the Quran. We produce the following translated verses from The Study Quran to point out that ours is indeed the Religion (Creed) of Abraham, and to point out that the translators left the Arabic word, a hanif, untranslated. Hanif translates as monotheist.

And who shuns the creed of Abraham, but a foolish soul? We chose him in this world and in the Hereafter he shall be among the righteous. [2:130]

And they say, “Be Jews or Christians and you shall be rightly guided.” Say, “Rather [ours is] the creed of Abraham, a hanif, and he was not of the idolaters,” [2:135]

Say, “Truly my Lord has guided me unto a straight path, an upright religion, the creed of Abraham, a hanif, and he was not of the idolaters.” [6:161]

Then we revealed unto thee, “Follow the creed of Abraham, a hanif, and he was not among the idolaters.” [16:123]

HADITH

Just like the Arabic word Hanif is untranslated above, The Study Quran translators and editors could have left the Arabic Words Hadith and Sunnah untranslated in the following verses. Leaving those two words untranslated would make sense as those words are increasing referred to in the media.

However, had The Study Quran translators and editors left the Arabic Words Hadith and Sunnah untranslated, the bottom would fall out of their entire project. The Quran makes it clear that the only Hadith to be followed is the Quran itself and no Hadith other than the Quran can be followed. We have inserted in the following translated verses the Arabic Word Hadith and the Arabic Word Sunnah.

Certainly in their stories is a lesson for those possessed on intellect. It is not a fabricated account (Hadith); rather, it is a confirmation of that which came before it, and an elaboration of all things, and a guidance and a mercy for a people who believe. [12:111]

So in what discourse (Hadith) after this will they believe? [77:50]

These are the signs of God that we recite unto thee in truth. So in what discourse (Hadith) after God and His signs do they believe? [45:6]

So leave Me with those who deny this discourse (Hadith). We shall lead them on little by little, whence they know not. [68:44]

So in what discourse (Hadith) after this will they believe. [7:185]

And among mankind are those who purchase idle discourse (Hadith) to lead astray from the way of God without knowledge and who take it in mockery; for them there shall be humiliating punishment. [31:6]

God has sent down the most beautiful discourse (Hadith), a Book con-similar, paired, whereat quivers the skin of those who fear their Lord. [39:23]

SUNNAH

Sunnah means system. The Quran only refers to God’s system and never to the Prophet’s system nor the messenger’s system nor to Mohammad’s system.

[That is] the wont (Sunnah) of God that came to pass aforetime; and you will find no alteration in the wont (Sunnah) of God. [48:23]

But their believing benefited them not when they saw Our Might. [That is} the wont (Sunnah) of God which has been passed among His servants; and the disbelievers were then lost. [40:85]

Thou shalt find no alteration in the wont (Sunnah) of God, and thou shalt find no change in the wont (Sunnah) of God. [35:43]

[That is] the wont (Sunnah) of God with those who passed before; and you will find no alteration in the wont (Sunnah) of God. [33:62]

FIRST COMMANDMENT

The first commandment – you shall not worship except God – is central to The Quran, the Torah, the Gospel and the Creed of Abraham.

God bears witness that there is no god but He, as do the angels and the possessors of knowledge, upholding justice. There is no god but He, the Mighty the Wise. [3:18]

Know, then, that there is no god but God, and ask forgiveness for thy sin and for the believing men and believing women. God knows your coming and going, and your abode. [47:19]

Say, “I am only a warner, and there is no god but God, the One, the Paramount. [38:65]

Indeed, when it is said unto them, “There is no god but God,” they waxed arrogant. [38:65]

NO DISTINCTION AMONG MESSENGERS

The Quran forbids us in making any distinction among God’s messengers. The Religion of Submission (In Arabic: Islam) is a Religion of God. It is not a religion about Mohammad, Jesus, Moses, who among others were merely messengers of God.

Say, “We believe in God, and in that which was sent down unto us, and in that which was sent down on Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, Jacob, and the Tribes, and in what Moses and Jesus were given, and in what the prophets were given from their Lord. We make no distinction among any of them, and unto him we submit. [2:136]

The messenger believes in what was sent down to him from his Lord, as do the believers. Each believes in God, His Angels, His Books, and His messengers. “We make no distinction between any of His messengers.” And they say, “We hear and obey. Thy forgiveness, our Lord! And unto Thee is the journey’s end.” [2:285]

Say, “We believe in God, and in that which was sent down unto us, and in that which was sent down upon Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, Jacob, and the Tribes, and in what Moses, Jesus and the prophets were given from their Lord. We make no distinction among any of them, and unto him we submit. [3:84]

But those who believe in God and His messengers and make no distinction between them – unto them He will give their rewards. God is forgiving, Merciful. [4:152]

DESERTION OF THE QURAN

And the Messenger will say, “O my Lord! Truly my people have taken this Quran for foolishness.” [24:30]

And so too have the translators and editors of The Study Quran taken the Quran as foolishness.

The translation has 1996 pages, sure to turn off anyone seeking a study of the Quran, even though the translation itself covers 1584 pages. Less than 20% of the words in the translation are the actual translated words of the Quran.

The translators and editors of The Study Quran suppress the Words of God in the Quran to the words of humans. They attribute reverence to those human’s words written centuries after the revelation of the Quran. They call those human words Hadith & Sunnah. As the Quran and their own translation states the only acceptable Hadith and the only acceptable Sunnah are the words of the Quran.

The Sunnis, Shias and the various sects in Islam have no differences about the Quran. Each sect has its own “authentic” Hadith. Each sect draws conclusions about various verses of the Quran through the lenses of their Hadith. So too have the translators and editors of The Study Quran. The simple and clear verses and the words of the Quran are drowned by the words of humans. The Creator’s Words are secondary to the words of God’s human creatures to the translators and editors of The Study Quran.

By giving the words of men in Hadith and Sunnah abrogation authority, over the Word of GOD in the Quran the translators and editors of The Study Quran have committed the very thing GOD commanded not to do in verses 6:114-115.

The Hadith and Sunnah literature may be valuable as sources of history but none of them can be used to derive meanings of the Quran. All interpretation and meaning should be derived in light of the Quran.

IN LIGHT OF THE QURAN

O you who believe! Ask not about things which, if they were disclosed to you, would trouble you. And if you ask them while the Quran is being sent down, they will be disclosed to you. God has pardoned this, and God is Forgiving, Clement. [5:101]

Obey God and His Messenger.
Where do we find details about Salat in the Quran?

Obey God and His Messenger

In the name of God, most Gracious, most, Merciful

When two or more individuals open a joint account at a bank in USA, they have an option of opening an OR account or an AND account. When they open an OR account either party can withdraw funds by one person’s signature. However, when an AND account is opened, both parties must sign before funds can be withdrawn. In other words for the AND account approval of all parties is required for funds withdrawal or to make any changes to the account.

The Quran commands us to obey God AND His messenger. It commands us in 49:1 not to place our opinion above God AND His messenger. The Quran does not give us the luxury of obeying God OR His messenger. In other words we don’t have the choice of obeying God OR obeying His messenger. Thus, obeying God and His messenger boils down to obeying God as it requires God’s endorsement. God’s endorsement is in the words of the Quran. We obey God by following God’s words in the Quran.  We don’t place our opinion above God and His messenger by not placing our opinion outside the confines of the words of the Quran. We cannot obey God and His messenger until and unless what the messenger says coincides with the words of the Quran.

It is:                       obey God and His messenger.
It is not:               obey God or His messenger.

God has given the example of the use of word OR to mean EITHER. The word OR suggests option.

[23:6] Only with their spouses, or those who are rightfully theirs, do they have sexual relations; they are not to be blamed.

[70:30] (They have relations) only with their spouses, or what is legally theirs –
[70:31] anyone who transgresses these limits is a sinner.

God specifies in this category that sexual relations are allowed with EITHER their spouses OR what is legally theirs, but not both.

God has blessed us with all the words we need in the Glorious Quran.

My son had a question that was marked wrong on his paper.  He pointed out to me that by the way it was worded, he felt as though he were correct.  Here is the question:  There are 3 knives, 4 spoons, 4 forks.  What fraction of the utensils are spoons OR forks? He answered 4/11 and was told the teachers edition says 8/11.  I understand the way he read it to be OR meaning one or the other.  If it’s 8/11, shouldn’t it be worded spoons AND forks?  If the answer is 8/11, I want my son to understand why.

Hi, Mikki.

The words “and” and “or” can be ambiguous in English, so in math we give them precise meanings.  We have to teach those meanings, but often forget to, which may have happened here.

When we talk about the set of things that are A AND B, we mean that EACH of those things must be BOTH A and B.  Nothing is both a spoon and a fork!  (At least not in this problem.)  So “and” would have been inappropriate.  There are no utensils that are spoons and forks.

When we talk about the set of things that are A OR B, we mean that EACH of them may be EITHER A or B.  That is, we are including in the set BOTH those that are A, AND those that are B.  This is where the confusion and ambiguity come in!  There are 8 utensils that are spoons or forks.

Your son read it in a way that is commonly used in nontechnical English, taking “How many are A or B” to mean two separate questions combined: “How many are A, how many are B”.  I can see how that could be tempting in this case; the two numbers happen to be the same, so he could take the question to mean “How many are A (which is also the same as the number that are B”.  If there had been 3 spoons and 4 forks, that interpretation would not have made as much sense; the best answer he could give would be “3, or 4”.  We don’t combine questions like that in math, to avoid confusion.

So the book was right, but the question is ambiguous if the teacher has not taught (or does not know) the standard mathematical usage. (This usage is important in some later topics, such as probability, so it’s definitely worth teaching.)

If you have any further questions, feel free to write back.

Hi Mikki –

I’d like to add one piece to what Dr. Peterson wrote.  While this is a slightly different application of the idea, my students always found this particular example of the logical difference between AND and OR helpful.

In logic, an AND statement is only true if both parts of it are true. If I say, “I am in Vermont AND I am in New Hampshire” the only way that can be true is if I am standing on the border with one foot in each state.

An OR statement is true if either part is true.  If I say, “I am in Vermont OR I am in New Hampshire” that statement is true as long as I am in either state (it’s also true if I’m straddling the border).  The only way an OR statement is not true is if both parts are false, such as if I were standing in Massachusetts when I made my statement about being in Vermont or New Hampshire.

With your question about utensils being spoons OR forks, I count every utensil that is either a spoon or a fork, giving 8 of the 11.  If I were asked what fraction of the utensils were spoons AND forks, there would be zero since the utensil would have to be both things.  There IS a utensil you sometimes see in fast food places which is a spoon shape with teeth on the front edge, and it’s generally referred to as a “spork”, a combination of spoon and fork.  That’s what I’d need for a utensil to be considered a spoon AND a fork.

Does that help?  Write back if you have questions on any of this.

Islamic Reformation

In “An Open Letter to Moderate Muslims,” Mr. Ali Rizvi ends by saying Islamic reformation needs radicals. We cannot agree more. Here is the radical idea from the Quran.

Quran is the only source of religious law and following any other source for religious law is idolatry (6:114-115; 7:52; 10:37, 6:19; 6:38). Yes this means that we accept the Quran literally, as it is actually written and without any need for metaphorical explanations. This concept within the words of the Quran is alien to ‘Muslim’ scholars, moderate Muslims and Western scholars of Islam.

Almost all contracts have a “The entire agreement clause.” The Quran makes it clear that it is the only source of religious law. No other source including Hadith or Sunnah may be a source of religious law. No outside or parol evidence other than the words of the Quran can be considered for religious law.

Those who call themselves Muslims and indeed the Moderate Muslims have little or no idea what the Quran states. Most who call themselves Muslims have set aside the Quran and go by volumes of Hadith & Sunnah written 250+ years after the revelation of the Quran. The Quran condemns any hadith or Sunnah (system) other than the Quran. The Western Scholars revel at all the nonsense in the books of Hadith/Sunnah and have no hesitation in defining Islam (in English: Submission) based on books other than the Quran.

Absolutely there should be the study of the Quran. Numerous translations are available in the internet for side by side comparisons. Most translators translate (including Western Scholars) through the lens of the books of Hadith/Sunnah. This is a fatal error. The Quran stands on its own and should be studied that way.

Mr. Reza Aslan in his book, “No god but God” narrates that when Abu Bakr was elected as Caliph he proceeded to carry out his duties with the principle, “what would Mohammad do” in a particular situation. The right principle to follow at that time as well as now is “what to do in light of the Quran.”

A study of the Quran and any conclusion should be based on examining the complete verse, looking at preceding/following verses and subsequently in light of the Quran (5:101).

Reading the Quran in Arabic (2:171), ablution before touching the Quran (56:79), prohibiting menstruating women from touching the Quran and carrying out religious duties, Sunni taraweeh in the month of Ramadan, holding the Quran over someone’s head, cutting-off of hand and FGM are not supported in the Quran. All of this, which qualifies as nonsense originates from the man-written and fabricated books of hadith/Sunnah.

[5:38]  The thief, male or female, you shall mark their hands* as a punishment for their crime, and to serve as an example from GOD. GOD is Almighty, Most Wise.

*5:38 The practice of cutting off the thief’s hand, as decreed by the false Muslims, is a satanic practice without Quranic basis. Due to the special importance of this example, God has provided mathematical proof in support of marking the hand of the thief, rather than severing it. Verse 12:31 refers to the women who so admired Joseph that they “cut” their hands. Obviously, they did not “cut off” their hands; nobody can. The sum of sura and verse numbers are the same for 5:38 and 12:31, i.e., 43. It is also the will and mercy of God that this mathematical relationship conforms with the Quran’s 19-based code. Nineteen verses after 12:31, we see the same word (12:50).

[12:31]  When she heard of their gossip, she invited them, prepared for them a comfortable place, and gave each of them a knife. She then said to him, “Enter their room.” When they saw him, they so admired him, that they cut their hands. They said, “Glory be to GOD, this is not a human being; this is an honorable angel.”

IN LIGHT OF THE QURAN – FREEDOM OF RELIGION

[2:256] There shall be no compulsion in religion: the right way is now distinct from the wrong way.

IN LIGHT OF THE QURAN – BASIC RULES FOR ALL FIGHTING

[60:8]  GOD does not enjoin you from befriending those who do not fight you because of religion, and do not evict you from your homes. You may befriend them and be equitable towards them. GOD loves the equitable.

[60:9]  GOD enjoins you only from befriending those who fight you because of religion, evict you from your homes, and band together with others to banish you. You shall not befriend them. Those who befriend them are the transgressors.

VERSES REFERRED BY MR. ALI RIZVI

[4:88-89]  Why should you divide yourselves into two groups regarding hypocrites (among you)? GOD is the one who condemned them because of their own behavior. Do you want to guide those who are sent astray by GOD? Whomever GOD sends astray, you can never find a way to guide them.
They wish that you disbelieve as they have disbelieved, then you become equal. Do not consider them friends, unless they mobilize along with you in the cause of GOD. If they turn against you, you shall fight them, and you may kill them when you encounter them in war. You shall not accept them as friends, or allies.

[4:90-91]  Exempted are those who join people with whom you have signed a peace treaty, and those who come to you wishing not to fight you, nor fight their relatives. Had GOD willed, He could have permitted them to fight against you. Therefore, if they leave you alone, refrain from fighting you, and offer you peace, then GOD gives you no excuse to fight them.
You will find others who wish to make peace with you, and also with their people. However, as soon as war erupts, they fight against you. Unless these people leave you alone, offer you peace, and stop fighting you, you may fight them when you encounter them. Against these, we give you a clear authorization.

Lessons from History

[8:12-13]  Recall that your Lord inspired the angels: “I am with you; so support those who believed. I will throw terror into the hearts of those who disbelieved. You may strike them above the necks, and you may strike even every finger.”
This is what they have justly incurred by fighting GOD and His messenger. For those who fight against GOD and His messenger, GOD’s retribution is severe.

Grossness of Murder

[5:32]  Because of this, we decreed for the Children of Israel that anyone who murders any person who had not committed murder or horrendous crimes, it shall be as if he murdered all the people. And anyone who spares a life, it shall be as if he spared the lives of all the people. Our messengers went to them with clear proofs and revelations, but most of them, after all this, are still transgressing.

Capital Punishment: When is it Justified?

[5:33-34]  The just retribution for those who fight GOD and His messenger, and commit horrendous crimes, is to be killed, or crucified, or to have their hands and feet cut off on alternate sides, or to be banished from the land. This is to humiliate them in this life, then they suffer a far worse retribution in the Hereafter.
Exempted are those who repent before you overcome them. You should know that GOD is Forgiver, Most Merciful.

VERSE REFERRED BY OTHERS

[9:4-7]  If the idol worshipers sign a peace treaty with you, and do not violate it, nor band together with others against you, you shall fulfill your treaty with them until the expiration date. GOD loves the righteous.
Once the Sacred Months are past, (and they refuse to make peace) you may kill the idol worshipers when you encounter them, punish them, and resist every move they make. If they repent and observe the Contact Prayers (Salat) and give the obligatory charity (Zakat), you shall let them go. GOD is Forgiver, Most Merciful.
If one of the idol worshipers sought safe passage with you, you shall grant him safe passage, so that he can hear the word of GOD, then send him back to his place of security. That is because they are people who do not know.
How can the idol worshipers demand any pledge from GOD and from His messenger? Exempted are those who have signed a peace treaty with you at the Sacred Masjid. If they honor and uphold such a treaty, you shall uphold it as well. GOD loves the righteous.
