The following are some examples of how most translators of the
Quran are influenced by Hadith & sunnah in translating the Quran.
They put their own opinion, above the opinion of God. The one
exception to the translations is the translation of a believer – Dr Rashad
Khalifa.
EXAMPLE ONE
Mr. Yusuf Ali distorted the translation of this important
criterion in the Quran [39:45]
“When God ALONE is advocated, the hearts of those who do not
believe in the Hereafter shrink with aversion. But when others are
mentioned besides Him, they rejoice.” Rashad Khalifa
Mr. Yusuf Ali changed the meaning of this verse by stating “God,
the One and Only,..”, rather than “God Alone.”; thus attempting to
change an important criterion.
EXAMPLE TWO
“Recall that Moses said to his people, “O my people, you have
wronged your souls by worshiping the calf. You must repent to your
Creator. You shall kill your egos. This is better for you in the
sight of your Creator.” He did redeem you. He is the Redeemer, Most
Merciful.” [2:54] Rashad Khalifa
“And remember Moses said to his people: “O my people! Ye have
indeed wronged yourselves by your worship of the calf: So turn (in
repentance) to your Maker, and slay yourselves (the wrongdoers);
that will be better for you (in forgiveness): For He is Oft-
Returning, Most Merciful.”—-Yusuf Ali
…slay yourselves?… for redemption?…isn’t killing yourself
against the Quran and common sense?
EXAMPLE THREE
“If anyone thinks that GOD cannot support him in this life and in
the Hereafter, let him turn completely to (his creator in) heaven,
and sever (his dependence on anyone else). He will then see that
this plan eliminates anything that bothers him.” [22:15] Khalifa
“If any think that God will not help him (His Apostle) in this
world and the Hereafter, let him stretch out a rope to the ceiling
and cut (himself) off; Then let him see whether his plan will
remove that which enrages (him)!” —Yusuf Ali
…cut himself off?….
EXAMPLE FOUR
“The end of the world is surely coming. I will keep it almost
hidden.” [20:15] Rashad Khalifa
Most translators take out the crucial word “almost” from the
translation of this verse, because of the traditional belief that
the end of the world could not possibly be unveiled. So the
translators distorted the meaning of the above verse.
Verse 20:15 has the Arabic word “AKAAD” which means “almost” or “nearly”. Yusuf Ali ignored
this Arabic word in verse 20:15, but did translate “AKAAD” as
“ALMOST” in 28:10, 42:5, 67:8 and 68:51. He translated it as
“NEARLY” in 9:117, 17:74 and 22:72. He translated it as “SCARCELY”
in 18:93 and 43:52 and as “HARDLY” in 24:40. So, Mr Yusuf Ali knew
exactly what “AKAAD” meant, but he put his personal opinion above
the opinion of God and distorted the meaning of verse 20:15.
